If you can’t settle for anything below the range of best-in-class all-electric vehicles, that must be spacious enough to hold people and their cargo without a push, while the acceleration should be always peppy even off-the-line, then we guess you are habituated in driving the Chevrolet Volt. Yes, the 2018 version of the Chevrolet Volt has all these qualities, and that’s simply the reason behind its craze across the globe. To see what is more alluring in the 2018-year edition, we stepped into the most renowned Chevrolet dealer serving Barstow, where we got the golden opportunity to test drive one. And what we experienced, is worth sharing.
What has Changed for 2018?
The Chevrolet Volt has not undergone any such significant upgrade for the year 2018. The only visible changes we first noticed were the three new colors added to the palette of the exterior paint which they call as Green Mist Metallic, Satin Steel Metallic, and Cajun Red Tintcoat. Another exterior color, the Citron Green Metallic with limited-availability joined the Siren Red Tintcoat and the Kinetic Blue Metallic that are now listed with an extra-cost.
Next comes the newly installed driver-assistance package, that is offered as optional for the base trim we know as the LT. This package adds features like rear cross-traffic alert, blind-spot monitoring and rear parking sensors.
Some changes took place for the interior materials as well that started with the LT trim that was an unpleasant one, as it downgraded from offering leather upholstery to vinyl.
Ensured Safety
Chevrolet has never taken safety as the second priority. With the 2018 Chevrolet Volt, the definition if safety in vehicles touched the next level with the installation of teen-driving safety feature that is now made standard on every trim level and is purposefully designed to encourage young drivers develop safer driving habits. This is a feature that has earned lots of gratitude from the parents as now they can ensure the first level of safety for their children by setting up a speed crossing which the system will throw a warning, and they can keep the radio muted till the front seatbelts are properly fastened saving them from disabling the functionalities of traction and stability control. Rest the two features namely, the automated emergency braking and adaptive cruise control became optional for the top trim level named Premier.
Power Prowess
The powertrain of the 2018 Chevrolet Volt is known for being thoroughly reengineered for the year 2016 and it didn’t need to change till now in its all-electric range in which off-the-line acceleration is still a strong point of attraction for the driving enthusiasts. The powertrain in the 2018 Chevrolet Volt is seen using a large sized battery along with two electric motors, while a gasoline engine is kept stand-by to deliver a quicker and more powerful acceleration without compromising on the power to maintain the fuel economy rates. However, the power-delivery mode is made default in the 2028 Chevrolet Volt to propel itself with the power of electricity till the battery gets completely depleted.
As per the Chevrolet Barstow experts, overall, the 2018 Chevrolet Volt continues to attract the driving spirits and the passengers who are fond of adventurous trips pursued in the comfort of a luxurious cabin that it provides.
